[SBR] LDAP Authentication Error 81 Returned

Article ID: KB17753 KB Last Updated: 08 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
Summary:
SBR (Steel-Belted Radius) LDAP Authentication Error 81 Returned
Symptoms:
When attempting to authenticate via SBR an error code 81 is produced.
Solution:
This error code is related to a timeout in communication between the SBR and LDAP Server.  In order to correct this, the FlashReconnect setting in the [Settings] section of AUT file for communication between SBR and all LDAP servers needs to be set to 1.  After some time of inactivity the communication between any server that communicates with LDAP will timeout and the next first transaction will automatically fail.

By enabling this feature, in the event the LDAP server appears to be down when performing a Bind or a Search, setting FlashReconnect parameter to 1 triggers a reconnection attempt before rejecting the request.  Therefore, requests are not rejected due to inactivity timeouts.  This setting applies to a particular server.  To apply it for all servers, place it in the [Settings] section of the LDAP AUT file(s).

AUT File Example:

[Bootstrap]
LibraryName=ldapauth.dll
Enable=1
InitializationString=LDAPwithFlashReconnectEnabled

[Settings]
FlashReconnect=1
MaxConcurrent=1
Timeout=20
ConnectTimeout=25
QueryTimeout=10
WaitReconnect=2
MaxWaitReconnect=360
BindName=uid=<User-Name>, ou=sales, o=bigco.com
LogLevel = 0
UpperCaseName = 0
PasswordCase=original
PasswordFormat = 0
Search = DoLdapSearch
SSL = 0
;MaxScriptSteps = 10000
;ScriptTraceLevel = 0
;FilterSpecialCharacterHandling = 0
;ShutdownTimeout = 1
