[STRM] How is NTP used in various deployment scenarios?

Article ID: KB17989 KB Last Updated: 04 Nov 2010Version: 1.0
This article describes how time is synched between the various elements of an STRM deployment.
In STRM, time synchronization between the various deployed elements is critical to proper function.

During setup, only a Console or Log Management (LM) Console shows options for time sync.

When installing an STRM console or LM Console, an option is presented asking whether to use an NTP server or to set the time manually.
When installing any other element of a distributed or HA deployment, the option for setting time is not presented.

This is because all other elements of a distributed deployment (or any deployed HA elements) rely on the console to sync time.

No user configuration is needed or possible on any other deployment elements once the Console is in place.
All subsequent elements of the deployment look to the console to keep their time in sync.
