Summary:

Solution:
Depending on the network deployment, WXC can optimize the Internet traffic by configuring the Default Decompressor settings on the WXC’s.  For this to work correctly internet traffic should flow via two WXC devices.

Below is an example setup:
 

Using the example from above, on WXC 1, the Default Decompressor is configured with the WXC 2 IP address. When a client accesses the internet sites, since the default compressor is configured, all the traffic will be compressed by the WXC 1 and decompressed by the WXC 2. Thereby the compression benefit will be attained.

 Consider the following point when configuring the Default Decompressor settings in the WXC:

  • With Default Decompressor configured, all the traffic will be compressed unless there is an explicit traffic filter (like source/destination filter or application filter) configured to not  compress.
    Let say,  there are three sites with WXC as shown in the below diagram:



    In site 1 (WXC 1), the default decompressor setting is configured with the Site 2 WXC IP address. Since the Default Decompressor is configured, all the traffic destined to the third site is also sent to the site 2 WXC.

    Since this causes unexpected behaviors, for this type of network it is best to not implement Defaut Decompressor.
