[SBR Carrier] How to reset the initial administrator account

Article ID: KB18191 KB Last Updated: 21 Dec 2019Version: 6.0

During initial configuration of SBR Carrier, an OS account is specified which is used to manage SBR via the Web GUI.  You then manage the list of admin accounts using the Web GUI "administrators" panel.

This article provides information on how to rest the administrator account when the list of administrators is not known.

How to gain access to the Steel-Belted Radius administrator tool, when the original account that was used to install and administer SBR has been lost.

To reset the initial administrator account so that you can regain access to the Web GUI:

Solaris / RHEL:

  1. Login as the root user and open a command shell.

  2. Navigate to the Steel-Belted Radius directory:
    • # cd /opt/JNPRsbr/radius.

  3. Issue the following commands (or use a text editor such as vi to put the account name on a line by itself)
    # echo <username>  > initial_admin_account.dat

    # cat initial_admin_account.dat (to ensure the username is in the .dat file)

    # ./sbrd restart

Note: The <username> should be the actual username of an OS admin account (e.g., root). You must remove the <> surrounding the name. There is a redirect '>' used in the echo or cat commands to send the output to the file.

  • The file will be read and deleted during SBR restart

  • Verify that the file has been removed to confirm it was processed.  If the file is still present, check the file name/directory/format of the file contents.

  • Once the service has restarted and the .dat file has been removed, attempt to login to the Web GUI with the same username provided in initial_admin_account.dat and that user's OS password
