Article ID: KB18201 KB Last Updated: 22 Nov 2010Version: 1.0
Summary:
You are debugging a NSRP issue with debug nsrp all and in the output you see "failed to sync session: RTO mirror peer is not active".
Symptoms:
Symptoms:
  • Sessions are NOT sync'ing over to the backup device in an Active/Passive NSRP cluster.

  • Changing the priority on the backup device does not cause a failover to the backup device.

  • In a debug NSRP all output, the following is reported:
  • failed to sync session: RTO mirror peer is not active
    ## 2010-09-15 16:17:26 : Outbound rto peer 0 sync state not yet, cannot preempt

Solution:
This error indicates that the RTO mirror peer does not match. The command "set nsrp rto-mirror id 1" indicates that the peer is of VSD-Group ID 1.  If the peer is in VSD group 0, then it needs to specify an ID of 0.

For example, below is an incorrect and correct configuration:

Incorrect configuration:
set nsrp cluster id 1
set nsrp cluster name NAME
set nsrp rto-mirror id 1  <--------------
set nsrp rto-mirror sync
set nsrp vsd-group id 0 preempt
Correct configuration:
set nsrp cluster id 1
set nsrp cluster name NAME
set nsrp rto-mirror id 0  <-------------
set nsrp rto-mirror sync
set nsrp vsd-group id 0 preempt
In an Active/Passive cluster there is only one VSD-Group ID, and it is 0 by default.
