[vGW] vGW or Altor Security VM states it can't get a certificate

Article ID: KB20056 KB Last Updated: 05 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
Summary:
Communication between the vGW/Altor Security VM and the Altor Center (aka Security Design vGW) system is encrypted with certificates.  If the Security VM can't exchange certificates an error message will displayed on the console of the SVM.

Symptoms:

Cause:

Solution:
If you see a message on the Security VM console stating it can't get a certificate, it could be because of a few reasons.

First, make sure the Security VM has a properly working IP address (either via DHCP or static).

Login to the vGW/Altor Security VM console issue 'advanced' then 'sudo su', then 'ifconfig eth0'.

If the address is incorrect, then login to the GUI and change it (firewall -> status and configuration), otherwise issue 'wget --no-check-certificate https://ip of altor center/ca/getca'.

If this works there is no connectivity issue and your next step is to issue 'service altor_certs restart'.

If there is no 'getca' saved message there is probably some filtering on 443 or 8443 between the firewall and the vGW/Altor Center (perhaps wrong vlan, acl or firewall filtering).

You can check the arp table (arp -a for the center address or default gateway).

You can check the system for proper default gateway with 'netstat -rn'.
