Article ID: KB20111 KB Last Updated: 03 Dec 2020Version: 3.0
Summary:

This article provides information on how to clear the "Could not connect to fpc-1" error message, when performing a commit on a stand-alone EX4200 switch.

Symptoms:

How to clear the following error, when performing a commit on a stand-alone EX4200 switch:

user@switch# commit
error: Could not connect to fpc-1 : Can't assign requested address
warning: Cannot connect to other RE, ignoring it
configuration check succeeds commit complete

Solution:

Delete the commit synchronize command from the system hierarchy:

{master:0}[edit]
user@switch# show system commit
synchronize;

{master:0}[edit]
user@switch# delete system commit synchronize

The commit synchronize command is used only for virtual chassis and not for a stand-alone switch. When a commit synchronize is used by a stand-alone switch, it will try to search for the other member device, which is not present, which results in the error message being generated.

{master:0}[edit]
user@switch# commit
'error: Could not connect to fpc-1 : Can't assign requested address
warning: Cannot connect to other RE, ignoring it
configuration check succeeds
commit complete

user@switch# show system commit

{master:0}[edit]
user@switch# commit
configuration check succeeds commit complete

Note: After deleting the configuration, the commit error will be observed only for the first time, as the configuration has not been yet removed; but the error message will not be observed from the next commit.
