[vGW] What is the upgrade path from Altor 4.0 to vGW 4.5

Article ID: KB20862 KB Last Updated: 05 Mar 2017Version: 4.0
How to upgrade from Altor 4.0 to vGW 4.5.
  • When upgrading from Altor 4.0 to vGW 4.5, do I need to install vGW 4.5 from scratch?
  • If so is there any way to keep my existing Altor configuration settings?
Instructions to migrate from 4.0 to 4.5:
  1. Verify that you have a valid Juniper vGW 4.5 license. Customers on 4.0 with rights to upgrade to 4.5 were distributed instructions for creating the license(s) - you will need to install the 4.5 license after the update completes otherwise the product will not work correctly. If you do not have a valid Juniper license for your solution, contact Juniper Customer Care and they will be able to assist you in acquiring your valid Juniper license.

  2. From inside Security Design go to Settings > Update

    • Select "Check for Updates".
    • Verify that you have the most recent 4.0 build (a message with no updates available is a very good indication for this).
    • A button for 4.5 upgrade should appear - press it.
    • It will show a message saying that there are updates available to a specific 4.5 build.
    • Create a Snapshot.
    • Select Upgrade Now.

  3. Wait for the upgrade to finish and then login.  At this point you will need to enter the new Juniper vGW license.

  4. Upgrade the Security VMs via the Batch Update. This is considered a major upgrade so the ESX hosts will go into Maintenance Mode to complete.

Note: A clean install is needed only for the Beta Release.
