AX-411/CX-111 does not power up when connected to SRX-650 PoE gPIM

Summary:
This article describes the issue of SRX-650 PoE gPIM not delivering power to the PoE devices.
Symptoms:
  •  AX-411 directly connected to SRX-650 POE gPIM

  • CX-111 directly connected to SRX-650 POE gPIM

  • AX-411/CX-111 directly connected to SRX-210/220, PoE devices does power up
Solution:
 On the SRX-650 platform, when configuring the Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), you need to specify maximum-power output going to each Flexible Pic Concentrator (FPC).  On the SRX-650, you have multiple choices of number of POE FPC's, and quantities of POE FPC. Possible options with SRX-650 include:

  • 16 port POE gPIM

  • 24 port POE gPIM

Each FPC can power up:

  • 250 watts on a single power supply, or with redundancy using the two-power-supply option.

  • 500 watts with the two-power-supply option operating as nonredundant.

You can also determine the power capacity on each PoE controller with the command show poe controller:

To configure a pair of interfaces for PoE, you can configure the following:

With the SRX-210, SRX-220, and SRX-240, you do not need to specify the maximum-power, as the maximum power is fixed to the onboard FPC; whereas on the SRX-650, you have the choice of 1 or 2 FPC's, and a choice of 16 or 24 port POE's.

Based on the above partial configuration, FPC 2 will allot up to 125 Watts for that FPC. Each interface can draw up to that maximum power and also has a self imposed power limit per interface.

As you can see, interfaces ge-2/0/22 and ge-2/0/23 have maximum power of 15.4W each.These power levels are extracted from the max power of the FPC.
