Steel-Belted Radius on Solaris unable to connect to MS SQL with JDBC

Article ID: KB21830 KB Last Updated: 04 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
This article describes the issue of SBR running on Solaris being unable to connect to MS SQL with the JDBC driver. This due to the disabled encryption algorithms in the Solaris JRE.
Connecting to a MS SQL server, SBR reports that the connection failed and does not connect. A packet capture shows that the TNS pre login transaction fails.
Sun Microsystems has disabled some encryption algorithms for performance reasons.  Out of these, the RSA methods are what Microsoft uses for their encryption in the TNS pre login transaction. You can enable these methods by editing the file, to disable the provider.

Open the file in the JRE directory.

View the provider list, comment out the first provider in the list, and renumber the others so that it looks like the following: $ /lib/security/sunpkcs11-solaris.cfg
