Can I change the name of a node in the Junos Space fabric?

Article ID: KB22021 KB Last Updated: 10 Oct 2017Version: 3.0
Summary:

The Junos Space fabric node names cannot be changed after they have been set initially. This article describes the Junos Space fabric node names and their setup.

Symptoms:

This node name is NOT the CLI/OS level hostname.

Cause:
The Junos Space fabric node names cannot be changed after they have been set initially. Note that a Junos Space fabric can include a maximum of six nodes.
Solution:

The Node name is a logical name assigned to the node during the initial setup for the primary node, and from the Web UI for each subsequent node added to the fabric.

  • Note: This logical name is not the CLI/OS level hostname. This logical name is the Space Software Node name.

For the first node (member 1), Junos Space uses the node name specified by the user during the initial configuration of the Junos Space device (physical JA1500/JA2500 or virtual VM server). For each additional node (member 2 and up), the user must specify a node name when adding a node to the fabric. No option is given at the initial set up; once you select that the node will be added to an existing cluster, this step is skipped.

Once the node is added to the Fabric, the node name cannot be modified

If you need to modify the node name, you will need to delete the node from the Fabric, re image the JA1500/JA2500 using a USB (or deploy a new VM in case or virtual server) and add the node back to the space Fabric from the Web UI.

Modification History:
2017-10-10: Information was no longer valid, there is no UI option to modify the node name once it is defined.
