Article ID: KB22513 KB Last Updated: 21 Dec 2011Version: 1.0
Summary:
This article describes the issue of an error being generated when trying to change a chart type to a time series.
Symptoms:
Error message: An error occurred updating the Time Series Configuration. Unable to create new Global View. Limit is 100 views

Cause:

Solution:
For every time series graph, there is a Global View used; by default, there is a limit of 100 Global views. By default, on a fresh install there is 60 plus global views used and for upgrades there is likely more (In the 80 plus range). That does not leave many global views for the user to create.

Users will see a error message that they have hit the maximum limit for Global Views.

Workaround (use either of the following methods):
  1. Increase the limit from 100 to a higher recommended value. To increase the limit to 130, you will need to add a variable to:

    /store/configservices/staging/globalconfig/nva.conf

    1. Insert ACCUMULATOR_NUMBER_OF_VIEWS=130 (Recommended)

    2. Save and close.

    3. Do a full deploy.

    4. Restart tomcat.

  2. Open the unused time series saved searches and then save without Capture Time Series Data: selected in the time series UI.

In order to see what searches are using time series, run the following command:

    /opt/qradar/support/collectGvStats.sh -M
This will return the list of all searches with time series enabled. Now you will need to know which of these searches are not required, open the search in the log activity screen, and modify the settings for the graph that shows to set the time series to not collect data.

Note:
The issues with this are that the default global views are Admin ones and they are copied to all admin users when the users are created. So the unchecking of the time series will have to be done by the admin user and possiblely any Admin (Role) user that is created.
