Article ID: KB22617 KB Last Updated: 26 Jun 2012Version: 1.0
Summary:
This document will explain the reason behind license showing expiry as "invalid" or "permanent"
Symptoms:
To understand the meaning of "invalid" and "permanent" values under the expiry column of show system license output command.

root@srx> show system license
License usage:
                                 Licenses     Licenses    Licenses    Expiry
  Feature name                       used    installed      needed
  dynamic-vpn                           1            0           1    invalid
  ax411-wlan-ap                         1            2           0    permanent

Solution:

The reason behind the expiry showing up as "invalid" in the Expiry column for 'show system license' output command is because the default licenses does not have expiration date associated with them and they are not stored or registered with the online license server. So with the issuance of show system license command on SRX, the license server does not recognize this license and marks it as 'invalid' or in other words, the invalid expiry means that a valid license is not installed and the SRX only has the free, default licenses.

However when a valid license is installed, the expiry column will show expiry as "permanent" with the total number of available licenses in the Licenses installed column.
