Symptoms:
How to identify the serial number of the hard disk, when physical access to the device is not possible. This applies to the following IDP platforms:

  • IDP 75,250,800,8200

  • IDP 200, 600, 1100

Cause:

Solution:
To identify the serial number of the hard disk on the SA-IDP device, so as to perform a RMA for it, the following commands will help you to directly obtain the information from the CLI.

 The Linux command, normally used to obtain serial numbers of device objects, is:
# dmidecode

You will notice that many of the parts on IDP do not have a serial number listed. So, you need to use the new LINUX command to directly query the hard drive for the MFG Serial Number:

# hdparm -i /dev/sda
