Article ID: KB23482 KB Last Updated: 04 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
Summary:
This article describes the issue of IGMP snooping being globally disabled for all VLANs, when it is disabled for a single VLAN member on a trunk port. If IGMP snooping is disabled on certain VLANs and then disabled for other VLANs on a trunk interface, it is disabled for all the VLANs over that trunk port.

Symptoms:
To enable IGMP snooping for one or a few VLAN members on a trunk port; whereas disabling it for other VLANs on the port.

Example:

  • The ge-0/0/0 trunk port is a member of 10, 20, 30, and 40 VLANs.

  • IGMP snooping is enabled for 10 and 20; whereas disabled for 30 and 40.
juniper@test# show interfaces ge-0/0/0
unit 0 {
    family ethernet-switching {
        port-mode trunk;
            vlan {
                members [ 10 20 30 40 ];
            }
    }
}

juniper@test# show protocols igmp-snooping
vlan 10;
vlan 20;
vlan 30 {
    disable;
}
vlan 40 {
    disable;
}
The above configuration indicates that IGMP snooping is enabled for VLAN 10 and 20, whereas it is disabled for VLAN 30 and 40; but in the hardware, it is disabled for all VLANs.
Cause:
IGMP snooping is not differentiated for individual VLAns, due to the way that the PFE handles IGMP snooping over a trunk port.
Solution:
  1. Configure a static IGMP group for the VLAN member.

  2. Configure the mrouter port that requests the multicast stream:
    root@XRE200-LC-NC-XRE1# show protocols igmp-snooping
    vlan all;
        vlan 10 {
            interface ae23.0 {
                static {
                    group 225.0.0.1;
                }
            }
        }

This configuration indicates that IGMP snooping is enabled for all VLANs and a static group membership is installed for only VLAN 10.
