Article ID: KB24084 KB Last Updated: 18 Oct 2020Version: 2.0
Summary:
Note: A product listed in this article has either reached hardware End of Life (EOL) OR software End of Engineering (EOE).  Refer to End of Life Products & Milestones for the EOL, EOE, and End of Support (EOS) dates.
This article describes the issue of being unable to import a firewall into NSM.
Symptoms:
A firewall fails to get imported in NSM with the following error message being generated:
Failed to import device, error applying templates and defaults
Solution:
The above error message could indicate that the import fails at some point, at which NSM is unable to parse some character on the device configuration. Look into the configuration for some extra character or special character in the configuration. If there is anything like that, remove or modify the configuration and then import the device in NSM; it should get imported properly.

For example:
set hostname fw01.albuquerque.nm.albuq

set route 10.55.53.4/30 interface ethernet1/1 gateway 10.50.40.14 description "ABT-NSC-FowaraChowkPRIWANDXXCPE"
Modification History:
2020-10-18: Tagged article for EOL/EOE.
