[STRM] How to recover the root password with the USB key

The following article describes how to recover a lost root password using the USB key that ships with the unit.


User must recover a lost root password using the USB keys that ship with the unit when the root password is lost or forgotten.


  1. Insert your USB key into the appliance and power cycle it.  The Welcome screen will appear, with the boot: prompt.

  2. At the boot: prompt, type install rescue.

  3. Select No.

  4. Select Continue.

  5. Select OK.

  6. Enter the following:

  7. chroot /mnt/sysimage
    passwd root

  8. Enter the desired new root password. The password must match the criteria outlined in the STRM Installation Guide.

  9. Retype the new root password.

  10. Type exit.
