Summary:
This article provides information about the support extended by wireless WLC devices, which are running MSS, for Network Time Protocol (NTP) 'leap second' adjustments.
Symptoms:
  • The NTP protocol supports a concept of 'leap seconds', in which the time needs to be adjusted to either add or subtract an additional second to the amount of time in a day.

  •  The NTP protocol will advertise upcoming leap events with the usage of a leap indication bit in the NTP packet.
Cause:

Solution:
  • By default, Juniper WLC devices support the processing of NTP packets, which contain leap indication bits; however, the WLC devices do not currently process the leap event.

  • If the leap indication bit is set to add or delete a second, no processing is performed.

  • After the leap event is passed, the WLC will re-synchronize with the NTP server to the correct time at the next sync interval.

  • Currently, WLC devices do not provide configuration commands to further configure or enable/disable leap second support.
