[EOL/EOE] How to rebuild a RAID on a JA1500 Junos Space or NSM3000 device

Article ID: KB24236 KB Last Updated: 18 Oct 2020Version: 4.0

Note: A product listed in this article has either reached hardware End of Life (EOL) OR software End of Engineering (EOE).  Refer to End of Life Products & Milestones for the EOL, EOE, and End of Support (EOS) dates.

This article provides information on how to rebuild a RAID on a JA1500 Junos Space or NSM3000 device.

Errors are generated when re-imaging the JA-1500/NSM-3000 device via a USB stick.

This could be due to the incorrect RAID status of the HDD. The RAID has to be rebuilt.

Note: This process deletes all data on the drives.

This process should only be used if the system no longer boots, and the drives are found to be healthy.  If Drive health is suspect, please contact JTAC for an RMA.

  1. Power on the JA1500/NSM3000 system, with the console cable attached.
  2. Press Ctrl+A, when the RAID controller's BIOS screen is displayed.

  3. Press Enter to open the Array Configuration Utility.

  4. Select Initialize Drives, press the space bar thrice to select all 3 1TB drives (verify if all 3 drives appear), and press Enter to save.

  5. Press Y(es) to confirm Initialize and erase all drives.

  6. Now select Create Array, press the space bar thrice to select all 3 1TB drives, and press Enter to save.

  7. Select RAID5 for the Array Type and set the Array Label = RAID5.

  8. Keep defaults on all other fields, including Y(es) to write cache warnings. Set to Build/Verify and press Enter when done.

  9. Press Enter to continue to create the array.

  10. Press Esc to exit the menu. If required, you can select Manage Array to view the RAID5 array. The Build/Verify status should be 100% complete.

  11. Press Esc to exit.

Note: When viewing the Array Status in step 9, the result should be 'Optimal'. This process can take more than 10 hours.
