Solution:
To collect wireless packet captures via Linux, perform the following procedure (in this example, Ubuntu 11.10 is used):

  1. To identify the WLA operating channel, use the following command:
    # show ap status


    As per the above output, the operating channel is channel 36 (Radio 2).

  2. Configure the WNIC in the monitor mode and change the channel; type the following commands, as a root user, on the system:
    ifconfig wlan1 down
    iwconfig mode monitor
    ifconfig wlan1 up
    iwconfig wlan1 channel 36 
    

  3. Open Wireshark and start the capture on the WNIC:
