[EOL/EOE] Is it possible to manage a single device or cluster with two different NSM servers?

Article ID: KB25665 KB Last Updated: 17 Oct 2020Version: 5.0
Summary:

Note: A product listed in this article has either reached hardware End of Life (EOL) OR software End of Engineering (EOE).  Refer to End of Life Products & Milestones for the EOL, EOE, and End of Support (EOS) dates.

This article provides information about the possibility of managing a single device or cluster with two different NSM servers (which are not in HA).

Symptoms:

The goal is to explore the possibility of managing a single device or cluster with two different NSM servers (which are not in HA).

Solution:

We recommend that you do not attempt to manage a single device or cluster (firewall, switch, router, and so on) with two different (independent) NSM servers that are not in HA. Managing a device from two NSM servers will cause one of the NSM servers to always be out-of-sync with the device. Every time one of the NSM servers pushes the change to the managed device, the same configuration will not be automatically reflected in the other NSM server.

Re-importing the device to the other NSM server is the only way to bring it in-sync again, but at the cost of duplication of address objects/policies. To achieve redundancy on NSM servers, the best solution is to opt for the NSM's High Availability setup.
