Article ID: KB25694 KB Last Updated: 05 Sep 2012Version: 1.0
Summary:
This article describes the issue of captures not being written to the debug buffer, when a debug is performed. The output of get db st does not show anything.
Symptoms:
Even though debugs are running, there are no captures on the debug buffer.
Cause:
Check the output of get console:
nsisg2000-> get console
Console timeout: 0(minute), Page size: 22/22, debug: console >
privilege 250, config was changed and not saved!, default save prompt on
ID State Duration Task Type Host
0 Login 6 telnet-cmd:34 Telnet 172.27.199.193:1688
1 Login 112 telnet-cmd:33 Telnet 172.27.199.117:56536
2 Login 1587 telnet-cmd:32 Telnet 172.27.199.153:1696
3 Login 12219 telnet-cmd:30 Telnet 172.27.199.101:39549
In this case, the debug data is being dumped to the console. it is not saved to the buffer.
Solution:
For data to be written to the debug buffer, change the setting on the firewall to record the output to a buffer; the command is set console dbuf.

Now, after making this change, check the output of get console:
nsisg2000-> get console
Console timeout: 0(minute), Page size: 22/22, debug: buffer >
privilege 250, config was changed and not saved!, default save prompt on
ID State Duration Task Type Host
0 Login 6 telnet-cmd:34 Telnet 172.27.199.193:1688
1 Login 112 telnet-cmd:33 Telnet 172.27.199.117:56536
2 Login 1587 telnet-cmd:32 Telnet 172.27.199.153:1696
3 Login 12219 telnet-cmd:30 Telnet 172.27.199.101:39549
In this case, the debug data is being dumped into the buffer. it is not being saved to the buffer. Also, the command to change the logging to console (instead of buffer) is unset console dbuf.
