How to backup a configuration from a VXA/Junos Content (formerly MFC) device to a FTP/SCP server?

Article ID: KB25874 KB Last Updated: 04 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
This article provides information on how to backup the configuration of Junos Content Encore to a FTP or SCP server.
A VXA device is integrated in a network for caching and tproxy; so, how to backup the JCE's configuration from VXA to a FTP or SCP server?

On VXA, FTP is not currently supported to backup the configuration; however, SCP can be used to upload the currently active configuration to the SCP server. To do so, perform the following procedure:

  1. Logon to the JCE CLI via SSH or Telnet.

  2. From the user mode, switch to the executable mode by using the enable command.

  3. Go to the configuration mode by using configuration terminal or config t (in short form).

  4. From the configuration mode, issue the following command:
    (config)#config upload active <scp://username & password@hostname/path/filename>
    (config)#config upload active
You can also save the configuration in the Binary format via the WebGUI. However, the WebGUI does not provide an option to upload the JCE configuration to the SCP or FTP server. To do so, perform the following procedure:

  1. Logon to the JCE WebGUI (http://ip_address:port#).

  2. Click the System Config tab and then Config_mgmt.

  3. You can use the available options to save the configuration.

  4. Also, you can use the CLI that is available on the Config_mgmt screen to execute the commands, which were used to export the configuration to a FTP or SCP server:
    (config)#config upload active <scp://username & password@hostname/path/filename>
    (config)#config upload active
