This article provides information about the PoE requirements for the APs of the MP-432 model. The MP-432 model AP is the only WLA model AP that has an AP specific
power-mode setting, which can be configured for either
Auto (default) or
High.

The MP-432 model AP was designed and delivered to the market, prior to the 802.3at High Power PoE standard being finalized. Unfortunately, the MP-432 is not 802.3at PoE compliant. What this means is that the MP-432 will not advertize itself as a class 4 (802.3at) PoE device.
With this limitation in mind, the MP-432 can be configured to operate in one of the two power modes. The default power-mode of auto causes the AP to only draw power up to the 802.3af PoE limit and this requires that the AP operate in the 2x3 MIMO mode.
For the AP to operate in the full 3x3 MIMO mode, it should be set to the high power mode, which requires that the AP draw more power than is allowed under the 802.3af PoE standard.
For the MP-432 to draw enough power to operate in the 3x3 MIMO mode (high power mode), you can use either of the following solutions:
- Each of the two ports on the MP-432 can be uplinked to an 802.3af PoE source.
- One port on the MP-432 is uplinked to a non-standard 802.3af+ PoE source, such as PowerDsine 7012G.
- One port on the MP-432 is uplinked to a 802.3at PoE source, which is configured to allow or ignore the fact that a Class 3 PoE device is drawing Class 4 PoE.
