[SBR] EAP-SIM does not authenticate EAP-SIM requests when HLR is responding to Triplet and Quintuplet requests

Article ID: KB26439 KB Last Updated: 05 Mar 2017Version: 2.0
SBR, which is configured for EAP-SIM or EAP-AKA, sends requests for triplets or quintuplets to the HLR. The HLR responds appropriately, which is received by the SBR server; but SBR fails the authentication.
Requests for triplets or quintuplets are sent to the HLR. The HLR responds; but the SBR log indicates that the request times out. The subscriber will ultimately be rejected with the following error message being generated in the SBR log:
gsmMap: RCLASS ERROR 0x00050000: FAILED - The HLR and/or MAP Gateway is not functional.
The response from the HLR is not handled properly. The authGateway is not able to retrieve the response from the Omni stack software, due to a configuration issue.
When configuring Signalware, the configureNodes script is run. The command line requires the neccessary SS7 protoco (C7 = ITU, A7 = ANSI) be selected. When the script runs, the user will be prompted with the following question:
Do you wish to configure AC7 (Hybrid stack, ANSI TCAP over ITU SCCP/MTP) for node <node name> (yes or no) [no]?
The user should answer with no. Configuring the Signalware in Hybrid Stack Mode will prevent the authGateway module from accepting responses from the HLR, which causes the user to be rejected.
