[MX] BGP out-delay behavior

Article ID: KB26446 KB Last Updated: 06 Dec 2012Version: 1.0
This article provides information about the behavior of the out-delay BGP knob.
Information about the behavior of the out-delay BGP knob.
The out-delay knob is not applied to the initial announcement of routes, when the BGP session is first established. Consider a scenario, in which out-delay is applied to eBGP route with the following conditions and topology:

  • Router 1 has already learned 100 routes and the ge-0/0/1 interface has been set to disable.

  • Router1's ge-0/0/0 interface has been set to disable and iBGP sessions have already been established.

Under the first condition, out-delay will not take effect, after disable is removed. However, under the second condition, out-delay will take effect, if disable is removed.

For out-delay to take effect in the following sample topology, the iBGP session must be established, before the eBGP session.

Sample topology:

BGP has been set to out-delay 600:
                        [target machine]
