[Archive] Operation of WLA632-WW in Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and so on

Article ID: KB26779 KB Last Updated: 10 Oct 2020Version: 2.0
Summary:

This article describes the issue of the WLA632 access point model not allowing MSS enable the radios, after associating the AP to the controller, when the country code is set to OM (Oman), BH (Bahrain), AE (UAE), SA (Saudi Arabia), and so on.

Symptoms:
The WLA632 access point model does not allow MSS enable the radios, after associating the AP to the controller, when the country code is set to OM (Oman), BH (Bahrain), AE (UAE), SA (Saudi Arabia), and so on.

Initially, when WLA632 is added to the controller, the following warning message is generated:
warning: AP 2 radio 1 was disabled because there are no available channels for it in the current regulatory domain.
warning: AP 2 radio 2 was disabled because there are no available channels for it in the current regulatory domain.
Cause:
  • By default, the antenna model that is set on both of the radios of the Access points (WLA632) is ANT7360A-Out, which is an outdoor antenna type.

  • Whereas on the other indoor APs, the antenna type is set, by default, as internal.

  • In Middle Eastern countries, such as Oman and Saudi Arabia (probably due to Govt. regulations), 2.4 GHz radio operations are not allowed with the outdoor antenna-type.

  • Radio 2 does not have any issues; except that initially when you try to add the AP, a warning message that states that there is no channel available for radio 2 in the current regulatory domain is generated.
Solution:
To enable Radios 1 and 2, you have to run a few commands on the WLC CLI.

For radio 2 (5 GHz):
set ap <ap number> radio 2 channel <100-140 if dfs-channels are enabled on the radio-profile>
set ap <ap number> radio 2 tx-power <1-19> mode enable
This configuration should enable radio 2 after a short radar scan on the channel.

For radio 1 (2.4 GHz):
set ap <ap number> radio 1 antenna-location indoor
set ap <ap number> radio 1 tx-power <1-17> channel <1-11>
set ap <ap number> radio 1 mode enable
These commands will make the WLA632 work in these countries, as per the regulatory domain limitations.
