Article ID: KB27139 KB Last Updated: 21 Mar 2013Version: 1.0
Summary:
This article describes the issue of the commit sync, when performed immediately after a single commit in the edit private mode, not writing the configuration on the backup RE.
Symptoms:
When in the private edit mode, if a commit sync is immediately performed after a commit, the configuration will not be copied to the backup RE. However, commit will occur on the primary RE.
lab@router> edit private
warning: uncommitted changes will be discarded on exit
Entering configuration mode

[edit]

lab@router# set interfaces ge-0/0/0 description test

[edit]
lab@Cobalt-RE-1# commit
commit complete

[edit]
lab@router# commit synchronize <  will not commit on the backup RE

lab@router#
lab@router# set interfaces ge-0/0/0 description test1

[edit]
lab@Cobalt-RE-1# commit synchronize  < commit sync will work in this case
re1:

re0:

re1:

Cause:
This is expected behavior, as per the current implementation of Junos code.

To perform a commit sync via the commit command, configure set system commit synchronize:
lab@router# set system commit synchronize

lab@Cobalt-RE-1# commit

re1:

[edit]
