[ScreenOS] How to enable logging to a USB device

Article ID: KB27267 KB Last Updated: 26 Aug 2015Version: 2.0

This article describes the procedure for enabling logging to a USB device using NetScreen Series Security Systems. It also describes how to safely remove a USB device.

The goal is to enable logging to a USB device. To send log information to a USB device, it must first be enabled and the filesize parameter needs to be set.

In order to enable logging to a USB device, execute the following command:

set log usb filesize <megabytes>

The filesize parameter sets the maximum size, in megabytes, for the log file.

set log usb enable

Logging will be enabled to the USB device and logs will be saved to it.

To safely remove the USB device, execute the following command:

exec usb-device stop

Note:  You cannot view the logs that are sent to the USB directly.  You need to safely remove the USB, then mount it on your PC, then view contents from there.
