[SRX] "FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet" Messages in the jsrpd logs

Summary:

This article provides information about the "FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet" messages seen on SRX series platforms in Chassis Cluster (HA) environment.

Symptoms:

Occasionally, the following messages can be found in the jsrpd logs when the device is in Chassis Cluster (HA) mode -

/kernel: FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet, Expected seq no: <number> Received seq no: <number>
/kernel: FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet, Expected seq no: <number> Received packet with older seq no: <number>


In the log, the messages will appear as:

Sep 11 12:06:19 10.99.97.10 /kernel: FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet, Expected seq no: 6510290 Received packet with older seq no: 6510286
Sep 11 12:06:19 10.99.97.10 /kernel: FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet, Expected seq no: 6510290 Received packet with older seq no: 6510287

Cause:

These messages are due to a remnant of some debugging that was done for some other HA related issues. 

Solution:

"FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet" messages are informational and harmless. These messages are due to remnant of some debugging that was done for some other HA related issues. Note that sequence of heartbeats is not important so long as they are accounted for. These are purely control link keepalives that is having the sequence number issue and this will not affect the traffic on the box.

As these are harmless you can safely ignore them. If you want to prevent these messages from getting logged, use the below command which will exclude the logging of these messages in the messages log.

root# set system syslog file messages match "! FXP1 HA Keepalive out of sequence packet"
