[SRC] File system corruption caused during system restore

Article ID: KB28014 KB Last Updated: 26 Sep 2013Version: 1.0

This article describes an issue whereby at times the SRC file system gets corrupted while restoring from snapshot. The solution is to upgrade to a more recent version of the software.

The SRC snapshot process is highly memory exhaustive process. After the snapshot command is executed, the SRC virtual memory cache size increases as the SRC is in the process of saving the cache memory to local memory.

If the SRC is rebooted at this time, the copying of the SRC virtual memory cache to local memory is not complete, and the snapshot that is saved is corrupted. If an attempt is made to restore SRC using this snapshot, it causes SRC file system corruption. Since the SRC cannot load the SRC release, there is no access to the device.

The following example shows memory details of SRC immediately after taking snapshot.

Memory Status after taking the snap shot:
MemTotal: 16441600 kB
MemFree: 15900560 kB
Buffers: 36976 kB
Cached: 140592 kB
SwapCached: 0 kB

This issue is documented in TIC.19085. It affects all current SRC releases.
