[Archive] [WLM] Adjusting the Polling Settings and RF Threshold Settings to improve the performance of the monitoring DB

Article ID: KB28399 KB Last Updated: 10 Oct 2020Version: 3.0

This article describes a method used for increasing the performance of the monitoring DB. In large networks, the increased size of this DB will affect the performance of the WLM system.

In large networks it is recommended to manually adjust the polling operations that the RingMaster server employs to avoid conditions where the server is queuing up device requests due to network latency or load.

  1. Locate the polling settings under Setup->Monitoring Settings on the RingMaster server web interface:

  2. Change the Status Monitor Polling Interval to 60 minutes.
  3. Change the Client Session monitoring interval to 60 minutes and the Watched Clients / Watched WLCs intervals to 15 minutes.
  4. Change Radio and Port Statistics polling interval to 60 minutes
  5. Disable Rogue Devices by unchecking the box.
  6. Change the Configuration Change interval to 60 minutes.
  7. Set Radio Retransmit Rate to 50%.  Retransmissions are a normal part of 802.11 operations. Typical retransmit rates range from 15-20%. By setting the alarm threshold to a rate consistent with significant service disruption (>=50%) you will reduce unnecessary alarms.
  8. Set Radio Utilization to 95%.
  9. Set Radio Noise Floor to 80.
  10. Set Low Radio SNR to 10.
  11. Set Number of Clients per Radio to 30.
