[SRX] All cards on a High-End chassis get stuck in "present" status after enabling cluster

This article explains how clustering in High-End devices with a dual control link connected via an L2 network can cause all the cards to go into present state. It also suggests what must be done to prevent this issue from occurring.



When clustering is enabled, all the cards in the chassis go into "present" state and never come online. When clustering is removed, all cards come online.

In chassisd, we can see the following message:

fpc_a10_ok_to_powerup : waiting CPP to be powered up ...

To confirm the issue, attempt to set the card online by using the following command. This will generate the message as above.

root> request chassis fpc slot <slot #> online



When dual control links are configured and are connected through an L2 environment, make sure that there are separate VLANs assigned for each control link connection on the L2 environment. Otherwise it is equivalent to connecting the control ports back to back on the same node; this will cause the cards to stay in present status.
