Article ID: KB29037 KB Last Updated: 13 May 2014Version: 1.0
Summary:

While it is possible to restart the interface negotiation process with a reboot, an admin may prefer to restart without a reboot. This article explains how to restart the interface negotiation process.

Symptoms:

An IDP administrator may be using the AUTO function for IDP interface negotiation, and require restarting the negotiation process. While this will happen with a reboot, the admin may want to just restart the negotiation without bouncing the IDP.

Cause:

Solution:

A restart can be performed with the ethtool -r eth# command. For example:

[root@defaulthost ~]# ethtool -r eth2
[root@defaulthost ~]#

Note that there is no confirmation via the CLI that anything happened. However, you will see confirmation and the results in /var/log/messages:

[root@defaulthost ~]# tail -f /var/log/messages
