Article ID: KB29425 KB Last Updated: 15 Aug 2014Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article provides information on an error reported in the Web UI:

The selected zone and source interface must belong to the same virtual router

Symptoms:

An unnumbered tunnel interface is borrowing the IP address from a physical interface. When the zone of the tunnel interface is selected, an error is reported:

The selected zone and source interface must belong to the same virtual router

Cause:

The selected zone of the tunnel interface and the source interface does not belong to the same virtual router.

Solution:

Ensure that the selected zone of the tunnel interface and the source interface (from which the tunnel interface borrows its IP address) belongs to the same virtual router.

For example, an unnumbered tunnel.1 interface is borrowing its IP address from interface ethernet0/0 in the Untrust zone (Untrust-vr). Therefore, the zone of the tunnel.1 interface must be selected: Untrust-vr.
