[SSG Series] Policy-based traffic shaping is not taking effect in accordance with the configuration

Article ID: KB29439 KB Last Updated: 10 Sep 2014Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article provides an explanation as to why policy-based traffic shaping is not working in accordance with the configuration.

Symptoms:

Traffic-shaping was enabled in a few policies, defining Guaranteed bandwidth and Maximum bandwidth. However, when a speed test was performed to confirm the Guaranteed bandwidth and the Maximum bandwidth, the defined bandwidth values were not returned.

Cause:

The probable cause for this situation is that the traffic-shaping at the policy level is not enabled globally.

Solution:

In order to work at the policy level, traffic-shaping must be enabled globally, either via the Web UI or the CLI, as shown below.

Enabling Traffic-Shaping via the Web UI

  1. Go to Policy > Policy Elements > Traffic Shaping.
  2. Select Mode: Auto or On, as per requirement.

Enabling Traffic-Shaping via the CLI

  1. Set traffic-shaping mode auto/on.
