[EX/QFX] How to view the diagnostics data and alarms for Optical VCP Interfaces from all-member switches in a Virtual Chassis Fabric (VCF)

Summary:

This article explains how to run the digital optical monitoring (DOM) scan on the optical ports configured as Virtual Chassis ports (VCPs) and display the statistics. This article describes the two-step procedure to view the diagnostics on the optical VCP ports.

Symptoms:
The procedure for viewing the diagnostics data and alarms output on optical VCP ports differs on VCF. If we run only the show virtual-chassis vc-port diagnostics optics command, it will not display the diagnostics output.

Cause:

This is expected as we first need to run a diagnostics scan on the optical interface using a request command. Then we can see the results of the scan using the show command.

On VCF, the request virtual-chassis vc-port diagnostics optics command must be entered to run a diagnostic scan before you can gather the show virtual-chassis vc-port diagnostics optics output. This command was introduced in Junos OS Release 13.2X51-D20 for Virtual Chassis Fabric (VCF).
Solution:
  1. Use the following request command to run a digital optical monitoring (DOM) scan on the optical ports configured as Virtual Chassis Ports (VCPs).

  2. request virtual-chassis vc-port diagnostics optics all-members 

  3. Use the following show command to display diagnostics data and alarms for Ethernet optical transceivers installed in ports configured as Virtual Chassis Ports in VCF.

  4. show virtual-chassis vc-port diagnostics optics output
