[ScreenOS] After temperature alarm threshold values are modified on an SSG-140, a system temperature breach is not generating alarm events

This article explains why alarm events are not generated by an SSG-140 when the temperature threshold is reached.


The temperature alarm threshold values on an SSG-140 were modified according to the instructions in this article: KB26532 - [ScreenOS] Example - How to change the value of the temperature threshold for alarm.

Eventually, the system temperature breached the threshold value, as shown in the example below:

ssg140-> set temp 20 30
ssg140-> get chassis
Motherboard Information:
Serial Number: 0185072007000530
Control Number: ffffffff
Hardware Version: 1010(0)
CPLD Version: 3.2
System Temperature: 34 'C or 93 'F
Temperature Alarm Threshold: 20 - 30 'C

Due to this breach, the Alarm LED turned red, but nothing else happened. In particular, no event log was generated.

When default temperature threshold values are modified and the system temperature is breached, however, two things usually happen:

  1. The Alarm LED turns red, and

  2. An event appears in the Alarm log: system-critical-00022: The system temperature: (34 Centigrade, 93 Fahrenheit) is severely high or low!


This anomaly occurs because of a software defect specific to the SSG-140.


A fix is scheduled to be included in an upcoming release of the software.
