[ScreenOS] Syslog server server_name is not resolved

0

0

Article ID: KB29536 KB Last Updated: 26 Sep 2014Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article describes the error message below encountered in Event logs:

Syslog server server_name is not resolved

Symptoms:

A Syslog server is configured to a hostname. However, the firewall is unable to resolve it to an IP address.

Cause:

The Syslog server server_name is not resolved.

Solution:

Configure the IP address of the Syslog server instead of the hostname.

If, however, a Syslog server must be configured to a hostname, apply the workaround below:

  • Configure a static DNS entry for the hostname in the DNS cache table.

With the DNS cache table, an alias can be created for a hostname, and that host can be accessed from the security device.

Configure Static DNS Entry for Hostname in DNS Cache Table from the CLI

Execute the following command:

set dns host name <hostname>  <IPaddress>

For example: set dns host name test 5.5.5.5

Configure Static DNS Entry for Hostname in DNS Cache Table from the Web UI

Go to Network > DNS > Cache > Static Cache table (New).

Edit as follows:

Host Name: test

IPv4/v6 Address: 5.5.5.5
