[WebApp Secure/Mykonos] Browser plug-in crashes and the website becomes inaccessible when going through WebApp Secure

Article ID: KB29711 KB Last Updated: 02 Mar 2015Version: 1.0

This article describes a scenario that causes the Web browser to crash when the back end is being protected by WebApp Secure (JWAS) and how to get around the problem.

The back-end application works fine with the Mozilla and Internet Explorer (IE) browsers, but causes the Silverlight plug-in and the Shockwave flash plug-in to crash when accessed through the Google Chrome browser. As a result, the site becomes inaccessible.

Late 2013 and later versions of Chrome on Windows are affected by this plug-in crash.

JWAS uses the Silverlight "isolated storage" object, which facilitates cross-browser tracking; however, recent versions of Chrome seem to have deprecated the usage of the Netscape Plugin API that Silverlight relies on. This is possibly causing the issue.

To solve this problem, disable the usage of the Silverlight tracking mechanism by navigating to Configuration > Processors > Client Beacon Processor and setting "Silverlight Storage Enabled" to "false."

Restart the browser. The issue should not reappear.
