BGP route reflector license for SRX devices

Article ID: KB29961 KB Last Updated: 06 Oct 2015Version: 3.0
 The Advanced BGP licence (SRX-BGP-ADV-LTU) is needed in order to enable BGP route reflector feature on SRX650 devices.
When the device does not have the Advanced BGP licence, during bootup process, the device will log the informational message that BGP route reflector feature is disabled.

%DAEMON-2: Feature "BGP Route Reflection to IBGP peers" (18) disabled due to lack of valid license

If the device is configured as BGP route reflector, it will report a warning in the configuration and during the commit process.

root# show protocols bgp
group int {
type internal;
## Warning: requires 'bgp-reflection' license

root# commit
[edit protocols bgp group int cluster]
warning: requires 'bgp-reflection' license
commit complete

Alghough the commit itself will be completed, the BGP peering will not be established, and BGP connection to the route reflector peers will remain in "Idle" state.
Adding the advanced BGP license to the device will immediately enable the BGP route reflector feature and the corresponding messages will then be logged.

%DAEMON-2: Feature "BGP Route Reflection to IBGP peers" (18) now enabled due to presence of valid license!
%DAEMON-2: Route Reflection to IBGP peers feature ENABLED, All route-reflector client sessions are brought up

The validity and use of the license can be seen in output of the "show system license" command:

root> show system license
License usage:
