Summary:

This article provides the work instructions to manually activate your WLM  Ringmaster or Smartpass product license keys. A tool is available in the LMS (License Management System) which allows you to link the Host ID and activate your license keys without the need for Internet connectivity. These work instructions should be used as a backup when the autoactivation of the license keys using the 'Activate Now' button fails for any reason.

Symptoms:

Despite having Internet connectivity and DNS configured, I am unable to activate my Juniper WLM Series Ringmaster or Smartpass license keys when I click on the 'Activate Now' button.

The Ringmaster or Smartpass reports Error: Failed to contact license server or a similar message.

Solution:

To manually activate your Juniper WLM Series Ringmaster or Smartpass license keys:

The base license will show Activated = Yes. Additional feature keys show Activated = No.

  1. Ensure that the Base License and additional Feature License lines are successfully entered on the RingMaster or Smartpass license page:

  2. Click Export Request Info and copy the output exactly as displayed.

  3. Navigate to the Manual/Offline activation tool located at the following LMS URL:

  4. Paste the output copied in Step 2 into the box and click GENERATE.

    A license string should appear in the lower 'Response' box.

  5. Click Download and save the activationkey.lic file locally.

  6. Return to the WLM License screen on the WebUI, then import the activationkey.lic file that you just downloaded by browsing for the activationkey.lic file and clicking Import Activation File, as show below:

  7. Verify that all license entries in the list show Activated = Yes.

  8. Validate that the current AP count is the same as the activated license keys.

     

If you receive any errors during the offline activation process, open an Admin case using the Juniper Case Manager and attach any relevant screenshots.
