 This article describes how to access the web GUI of Ringmaster from an RM-200 appliance whenever it is not accessible.

Unable to access web GUI of RingMaster from RM-200 appliance.


Here are the steps to access the web GUI of Ringmaster from an RM-200 appliance:

  1. Restart RingMaster services from both UMSP web interface/CLI.
  2. Restart UMSP appliance.
  3. Verify that the IP address, DNS and host name are mapped to RingMaster (RM-200).
  4. From RM-200 CLI, enter into shell mode. Verify that the services-conf.xml file is blank and does not contain any error from /var/ringmaster/conf/ directory:

    Steps to enter into shell mode of RM-200:

    a. Enter enable mode via the enable command.
    b. Determine the current shell access code via the hidden show shell access-code command. This should display a code with the format "999-999-999".
    c. Use the shell access key generation utility to obtain an access key matching the access code. Windows and Linux versions of this utility are available in CVS. Invoke the utility passing the access code as an argument. The utility should output an access key with the same format as the access code (999-999-999).

    Windows - genshellkey.exe (appliance\tree\tools\win32)

    Linux - (also works in Cygwin environment)

    Contact Juniper Technical Support to access genshellkey.exe.

    d. Enter CLI shell command passing the generated access key as a parameter
    e. # rm-services stop
    f. show shell access-code <enter>
    g. Get the code from the client – generate in your computer
    h. Now with the generated code using keygen, #shell 052-248-030
    i. Navigate to # /var/ringmaster/conf/ folder
  5. Most of the time, this issue occurs only when the services-conf.xmlfile is empty and the file size is 0 KB. Since the wrapper is not able to execute because there is no entry in services-conf file, you must populate the file to have the services running again.
  6. Delete services-conf.xml file (which contains 0 KB of file size) from /var/ringmaster/conf/ folder of RM-200 appliance.
  7. Either try to have Ringmaster reinitialize onto the appliance or else copy a running services-conf file from a working Ringmaster installation to the RM-200 appliance when it faces a problem in accessing a web GUI.
