Article ID: KB30947 KB Last Updated: 25 Mar 2020Version: 4.0
Summary:

When using LACP in SRX transparent mode, the LAG interface is down. LACP is not supported in SRX transparent mode, whether the SRX is in standalone or HA mode. Use static LAG instead of LACP in SRX transparent mode.

Symptoms:

When using LACP in SRX transparent mode, the LAG interface is down.

Layer 2 Transparent Mode

LACP in a standalone device

SRX:
set interfaces ge-2/0/8 gigether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ge-2/0/9 gigether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp passive
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp periodic slow
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family bridge interface-mode trunk
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family bridge vlan-id-list 10

EX:
set interfaces ge-0/0/44 ether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ge-0/0/45 ether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp active
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp periodic slow
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family ethernet-switching port-mode trunk
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members 10

[edit]
root# run show interfaces terse | match ae
ge-2/0/8.0 up up aenet --> ae0.0
ge-2/0/9.0 up up aenet --> ae0.0
ae0 up down
ae0.0 up down bridge <---

LACP in a chassis cluster pair

{primary:node0}[edit]
set interfaces ge-2/0/8 gigether-options redundant-parent reth1
set interfaces ge-2/0/9 gigether-options redundant-parent reth1
set interfaces reth1 redundant-ether-options redundancy-group 1
set interfaces reth1 redundant-ether-options lacp passive
set interfaces reth1 redundant-ether-options lacp periodic slow
set interfaces reth1 unit 0 family bridge interface-mode trunk
set interfaces reth1 unit 0 family bridge vlan-id-list 10

EX:
set interfaces ge-0/0/44 ether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ge-0/0/45 ether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp active
set interfaces ae0 aggregated-ether-options lacp periodic slow
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family ethernet-switching port-mode trunk
set interfaces ae0 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members 10

{primary:node0}[edit]
root# run show interfaces terse | match reth
ge-2/0/8.0 up up aenet --> reth1.0
ge-2/0/9.0 up up aenet --> reth1.0
reth1 up down
reth1.0 up down bridge <---

Cause:

LACP is not supported in SRX transparent mode, whether SRX is standalone or HA mode.

Solution:

Use static LAG instead of LACP in SRX transparent mode.

LACP on Layer 2 transparent mode is supported from 15.1X49-D80 on the following devices - SRX300, SRX320, SRX340, SRX345, SRX1500, SRX4100, SRX4200, SRX5400, SRX5600, and SRX5800 devices and vSRX instances.  Refer to KB31771 for more details on the same.
