[JUNOS] Unexpected reboot with 'System abnormally shut down' and 'power cycle/failure' messages

Article ID: KB31157 KB Last Updated: 07 Oct 2020Version: 3.0

An unexpected reboot of my SRX with "System abnormally shut down" and "power cycle/failure" messages occured. There may be a problem in the Power System or hardware issue.

An SRX reboots without any core file.

From "messages" file, the following message is logged:
Aug 12 22:08:45 SRX100 eventd[1033]: SYSTEM_ABNORMAL_SHUTDOWN: System abnormally shut down

From "show chassis routing-engine no-forwarding" the following message is shown:
Last reboot reason 0x1:power cycle/failure

What could be the cause of this reboot ?

The message "power cycle/failure" indicates that this is not software issue. There may be a problem in the Power System or hardware fault.

Verify that the power system; power supply, power adaptor, is in good condition. Change it as needed.

Should the reboot recurs frequently, it may be a device hardware issue. Contact JTAC for an RMA application.
