[JSA] How to find the physical disk space for individual HDDs

0

0

Article ID: KB31246 KB Last Updated: 23 Nov 2016Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article describes how to find out the storage capacity for individual hard drives from the CLI for JSA.

Solution:

For SAS disk, use the following syntax:

# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sgX (X=hard disk number/slot)

Replace /dev/sgX with your disk number. If you have raid 10 array with 4 disks then:

  • /dev/sg0 – RAID 10 controller (you will not get any info or /dev/sg0).
  • /dev/sg1 – First disk in RAID 10 array.
  • /dev/sg2 – Second disk in RAID 10 array.
  • /dev/sg3 – Third disk in RAID 10 array.
  • /dev/sg4 – Fourth disk in RAID 10 array.

Example for JSA5500 which has 8 hard disks:

[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg1 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45VLF00009342NNQ4
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg2 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45A9K00009342NTJU
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg3 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45V9200009342NNQC
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg4 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45B5F00009342NNPS
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg5 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45B6A00009342NNFJ
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg6 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG45FT500009342PSU3
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg7 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG468PJ00009342PU47
[root@JSA5500 ~]# smartctl -d scsi --all /dev/sg8 -H | grep "Serial\|Capacity"
User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB]
Serial number: 9XG46B7T00009342PL4T

Similarly, you can retrieve information for JSA3500, JSA3800, JSA5800.

For JSA7500, use MegaCli. To get the Physical drive information:

MegaCli -PDList -aALL
MegaCli -PDInfo -PhysDrv [E:S] -aALL

- Login to JSA7500 command line access using root user:

#cd /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli
#./MegaCli64 -PDList -aALL | grep "Slot\|Raw"
