Summary:

This article provides information about the clksync_ptp_apply_gcfg syslog messages upon configuration commit. These messages are used by Juniper Engineers for debugging purposes and has no impact on service.

Symptoms:

The Clock Synchronization Process checks all FPC status upon any interface configuration changes such as add or delete. PTP (Precision Time Protocol) related messages are generated regardless if you have PTP configured on the router.

fpc0 clksync_ptp_apply_gcfg: Catastrophic Flag Status, Global: 0, Slave: 0, Master: 0
fpc0 clksync_ptp_apply_gcfg: Freq-only mode is disabled
fpc0 PTP global gencfg processed successfully

Some of the MPC cards may generate similar messages as shown above.

Solution:

These syslog messages do not impact service and can be safely ignored. They are suppressed in Junos 13.3R7, 14.1R5, 14.2R3, 15.1R2 and 16.1R1.
