Commit fails with"daemon file propagation failed" error

Article ID: KB31526 KB Last Updated: 30 Mar 2017Version: 2.0
Summary:

This article provides a work-around and fix for the commit error:

error: configuration check-out failed: daemon file propagation failed

Symptoms:

When configuring "authentication-key-chain" under the "security" hierarchy, the "secret" is required. If the "secret" is not included, when doing the commit, this error is reported:

error: configuration check-out failed: daemon file propagation failed

Solution:

This is a false error because the mandatory knob "secret" has not been configured.

The work-around is to configure the "secret", and then commit. This false error message has been fixed in the following Junos versions (and later):

Junos OS 14.1R9 14.2R8 15.1R6

With the fix when doing the commit, the following alarm will be shown:

Missing mandatory statement: 'secret'
error: configuration check-out failed: (missing mandatory statements)
