Article ID: KB31662 KB Last Updated: 12 Jan 2018Version: 1.0
Summary:

This article explains how to allow users other than the default user "admin" to access Web Management of the WLC.

Symptoms:

Users with attribute (service-type 6) i.e., Administrative access will be able to login directly to the privilege mode of WLC using telnet / ssh but they will not be able to login into WLC via Web management.

Login into WLC via telnet or SSH or CLI and create a user with an attribute of service-type 6.

Example (user called "admin1" with password "admin1"):

WLC# set user admin1 password admin1
WLC# set user admin1 attr service-type 6
Cause:

The https authentication method on the WLC is by default configured for legacy mode.

Solution:
  1. Change the IP https authentication mode from legacy to aaa.
WLC# set ip https authentication aaa

  2. Save configuration on the WLC.
    WLC# save configuration

  3. Try accessing the Web Management of WLC using a browser with the user (service-type 6) and you will be able to login into web management.
