[NFX] How to make a bootable USB from NFX software

This article explains how to make a bootable USB from NFX software via NFX/Linux/MAC-OS-X machine.

  1. Copy the NFX Software (.img format) to your NFX /Linux/MAC-OS-X machine. (example NFX Software =

  2. Insert USB drive to your NFX /Linux/MAC-OS-X

  3. Burn NFX Software to the USB drive using dd command 

    1. fdisk -l (to find the USB drive e.g. /dev/sdb) or use lsblk
    2. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/<PARTITION> bs=1M count=1 (example .PARTITION = sdb)
    3. dd if=<LOCATION>/ of=/dev/<PARTITION> bs=1M (LOCATION = Locally whether image is stored ,like /var/tmp/ )

The following example shows how to make a bootable USB from NFX software if the image is already copied to JDM
  1. Copy NFX image from JDM to hypervisor. The command is executed in JDM

    root@jdm:/var/log# scp root@hypervisor:/var/log/                               100% 1400MB 155.6MB/s   00:09
  2. Burn NFX Software to the USB drive using dd command

    root@jdm:~# lsblk
    sda      8:0    0 372.6G  0 disk
    |-sda1   8:1    0 189.8M  0 part
    |-sda2   8:2    0 976.6M  0 part
    |-sda3   8:3    0   1.9M  0 part
    |-sda4   8:4    0   1.4G  0 part
    |-sda5   8:5    0   5.7G  0 part /host/log
    |-sda6   8:6    0   7.6G  0 part /
    `-sda7   8:7    0 356.7G  0 part /var
    sdb      8:16   1   3.8G  0 disk  <-- USB drive
    `-sdb1   8:17   1   1.4G  0 part   
    root@jdm:/var/log# jhost dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1M count=1
    root@jdm:/var/log# jhost dd if=/var/log/ of=/dev/sdb bs=1M
    1400+0 records in

    1468006400 bytes (1.5 GB) copied, 75.5386 s, 19.4 MB/s
